Introduction |
The winners of the DEXIA-ONT Prize for Innovation in Tourism were announced on 17 July 08. The award ceremony took place at the headquarters of the DEXIA Banque Internationale in Luxembourg 69, Route d´Esch in L-2953 Luxembourg.
The results are based on the decision taken at the jury meeting on 11 June 2008 at the ONT. The Jury members were the Office National du Tourisme represented by Mr. Dr. Robert L. Philippart, the Europäisches Tourismus Institut GmbHrepresented by Mr. Prof. Dr. Heinz-Dieter Quack, saint-paul Luxembourg represented by Ms Hortense Bentz and Mr. Paul Lenert, the DEXIA Banque Internationale à Luxembourg represented by Mr. André Poorters, the European Institute of Cultural Routes represented by Mr. Michel Thomas-Penette and the Ministry of the Middle Classes, Tourism and Housing represented by Mr. Pierre Barthelmé.
The criteria of evalution were the following: 1st General impression, 2nd Level of innovation 3rd Creativity and quality of application 4th implementation of the Projekt or concept 5th Modell character/ transferable to other touristic enterprises/organisations and places, 6th Rentability and sustainability of the project, 7th Orientation to quality and target group cultural tourist, 8th possibility of exploring new markets,9th Unique Selling Proposition (USP), 10th network thinking.

The competition was launched in three categories each endowed with 3000€. Category 1 was reserved for touristic innovative projects by NGOs (non-profit organisations). Category 2 adressed touristic innovative projects helped by the state or lcal authorities. Category 3 included touristic innovative projects by private enterprises.
33 applications were sent of which 23 reached the final run.Among these 10 were nominated in category 1, 4 in category 2 and 9 in Category 3.
Moreover, some extraordinary projects of regional importance were selected and awarded with a certificate.
The award ceremony started with welcome of Mr. Benoît Holzem, Managing Director of DEXIA Banque. Then he was followed by Mr. Marco Schank, President of the Office National du Tourisme, Mr. Thorsten Koppenhagen, Dipl. Kfm. (FH), project leader at the Europäisches Institut für Tourismus Trier.
After the prizewinners and honoured were announced Mr Minister Fernand Boden delivered his speech.

Prizewinner and honoree Category 1
In category 1 „3, 2, 1 "Vakanz“ Agence voyage specialisée pour personnes en situation d‘handicap won with 326 points.
The second place reserved Barrierefreies Reisen- Wege der 5 Sinne. Modellhafte Tourismusinfrastruktur und Freizeitprogramm with 294 points.
The third place reserved La Nuit des Légendes with 274 points. La Nuit des Légendes was awarded.
Prizewinner and honoree Category 3
In category 3 Haus der Luxemburger Weine won. In addition, the Musée de la Caricature et du Cartoon de Vianden was awarded.

In Category 2 the Luxembourg Festival won. Moreover, D‘Strooss vun de Réimer am Miselerland was awarded.

Presentation of the Prizewinner of category 1
„3, 2, 1 Vakanz“ Agence voyage specialisée pour personnes en situation d‘handicap.
The project addresses the needs of handicaped cultural tourists. It has been partially implemented since 1998 and enables travelling barreer-free without reducing the traveler's autonmy.
The voyages are organised and carried out. You can choose between various travel destinations, recovery voyages, voyages for actifs, group and individual voyages and family voyages.
Equipment as well as information to cultural events and sights are given and can be found at an internet platform. The organisation has been in existance for over 30 years.

La Nuit des Légendes
On the fort Esch-sur-Sûre story tellers, artists, dancers, actors, musicians, magicians and fire-breathers welcome paying visitors, young and older ones.
The legends of the region are told and performed at dawn and at night. Each year several dozens of events to everyone´s taste are offered.

2nd place category 1 |
Barrierefreies Reisen- Wege der 5 Sinne. Modellhafte Tourismusinfrastruktur und Freizeitprogramm.
This project was not awarded. Nevertheless it reserved the second place in its category. It has been partially implemened since 2006 and shall be introduced into the market this year.
The interior and exterior of a tourist centre in the Ardennes should be made accessible for handicapesd visitors.
An activity programme including inter alia tinkering workshops is offered. A network of barreer free travelling should be established.

Presentation of the Prizewinner of category 2
Luxembourg Festival
The city of Luxemburg, the Philharmony and the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg in co-operation with l’OPL, the MUDAM, and the Musée d’Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg organised an interdisciplinary festival. Many cultural institutions parallel carried out events and expositions.
Public transportation and hostels and other providers of accomodation were included in the planning procedure. Thus visitors can be driven from one event to another or to a hotel.
The project presents the city of Luxembourg as a unique culturalmetropolis and succeed in adressing people interested in culture from the Greater Region and from Great Britain.

Honoree category 2 |
D‘Strooss vun de Réimer am Miselerland
The project allows you to discover Roman places along the river Mosel and to feel their way of life.
Besides the brochure „Die Straße der Römer“ (The Street of the Romans) which visualises Roman heritage today the "bicycle tour Velo Romanum" was created.
Furthermore, Roman hiking trips, picnics in nature with roman dishes and wine are offered.
Costumes, armours and weapons that are similar to the original ones make the tourist jump into Roman Ages.

Haus der Luxemburger Weine
A Vinothek specialized on luxemburgish top wines should be established.
First of all the high quality wines of the Mosel area will be presented to tourists coming from the Grand-Duchy and from abroad.
As many other vinothekes this one also offers lectures, degustations and wine seminars.
In the heart of the capital, perhaps in the Council´s cellar of the Cercle-Building, which is the proposition of mayor Mr. Paul Helminger and the City-Manager Ms Geraldine Knudson, the rural space, its tourism and its products can be better promoted in near future.

Musée de la Caricature et du Cartoon de Vianden
In the former house of Victor Abens dated to the 17th century the Musée de la Caricature et du cartoon should be installed.
It offers an exposition area of more than 300 sqm on which the national and international history of this genre as well as the works of contemporary artists are presented to all interested people.
In co-operation with the castle of Vianden the town should flourish as a town of literature.
